Imagine. . . if you can, a business where your clients pay you more than you ask for.
Imagine. . .when you receive a payment for an invoice, you open the envelope, look at the check and it is made out for more than you invoiced.
Imagine. . .your clients asking you if they can give you extra money.
If you are a waiter, bartender, hairdresser or other service person who works for tips, you've probably experienced this when you've given great service. But in a business where you've agreed upon a price and then invoiced, it is not the norm. Nevertheless, in my own businesses, I’ve had that experience several times.
One time when this happened, I had the honor of being asked to write a year-end analysis for a large, international travel industry organization. This client and I had agreed upon a flat fee, but when I opened the envelope with the payment, the check was made out for ten percent more than we had agreed upon. This happened to me for two years in a row, and has happened with other clients as well.
- What am I doing to please my clients so much that they want to pay me more?
- How do you create a business like this?
To find the answer to those questions, look to the operative term in the above example: "honor." I felt honored to work for that client. I loved what I was doing. In response the client "appreciated" the fee it paid. The word appreciation here means increase.
I can guide your marketing plan into one that "appreciates" as well. It requires a shift in the way you think about your business and a shift in how you market it.
